How to Write a Song is a poetry film written and performed by artist and musician Rose Vastola. Set within a quiet studio, the performance begins as an instructional guide to songwriting before gradually unfolding into a reflection on the creative process itself.
Blurring the line between demonstration and performance, the work explores the uncertainty, intuition, and emotional vulnerability that exist behind making art. Through unconventional interactions with the guitar and subtle shifts in movement, the piece questions what it means to create, revealing that the process is often less about following a method and more about discovering something unexpected along the way.
